Everyone, everywhere, is jumping on the media consolidation bandwagon. Lee Enterprises just bought Pulitzer Inc's newspapers for about one and half billion dollars. Why should you care?

Well, they say that

"The acquisition of Pulitzer allows us to take an exciting and logical next step into another exceptionally attractive group of markets, exactly the kind where we excel as an industry leader in building revenue and circulation,"

and we say that owning lots of newspapers opens the door to journalistic abuses. These include censorship, advertiser-sponsored journalism, and writing fluffy pieces about your own media aquisitions that refer to a newspaper buyout as "exciting".
