Horrified Observers of Pedestrian Entertainment: Media Groups denied a "Bag of Holding"

Media Groups denied a "Bag of Holding"

The monster known as "The Tribune Company" (among others) was turned away by a pitchfork wielding crowd known as the Justice Department. The Newspaper Association and the FCC were trying to pass legislation that would allow a single company to own TV stations and a newspaper in the same area, and to own more TV and radio stations in a single market.

If there's anything we've learned about sloppy deregulation, it is that this sort of thing encourages large mergers that then stifles diversity in news and entertainment. Look what has happened to radio since the deregulatory acts of the Telecommunications Bill of 1996.

That, of course, created the beast known as Clear Channel. Can you imagine if Clear Channel was allowed to own your local paper? Maybe you could read about how Garfield thinks Creed is "rad".
